Acne
Acne Voulgaris is the medical term for common acne, and it is also known as pimples, blemishes or spots. Acne is one of the most common skin problems that can affect both males and females at any stage of their lives, but especially during puberty and adolescence. Acne develops when sebaceous glands (skin oil glands in the hair follicle) are secreting excessive sebum (oil) and the pores become plugged with sebum and keratin from the dead skin cells.
This creates a favourable environment for the naturally occurring bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes that starts to multiply and may cause inflammatory lesions of varies severity: papules, infected pustules, nodules, and cysts. Depending on the stage and severity of acne it can cause emotional distress and leave permanent scars. The earlier you start treatment of acne, the lower the risk of developing the abovementioned problems.

Advanced skincare treatments can help in cases with early stages of acne when mostly commedons (whiteheads and blackheads) are present and during the mild to moderate stages of acne. Amongst these treatments are:

-
Skin Resurfacing (e.g., chemical peels and microdermabrasion)
These procedures are described in more details in the corresponding sections on this website. Resurfacing procedures help to reduce skin debris and thus prevent blockage of the pores and development of new acne and lighten the post-acne hyperpigmentation marks. Mesotherapy reduces inflammation, improves skin hydration, and therefore helps to reduce breakouts and to heal the existing active acne and acne scarring.
IPL has received FDA approval for mild, moderate, and inflammatory acne. Light decreases the sebum production, destroys the bacteria and causes shrinkage of the inflamed sebaceous glands and reduces acne scarring. Each of the above-mentioned techniques when performed in a course of regular treatments can provide significant improvement for mild and moderate acne over time. To assist the treatment outcome, we can also recommend an individualized special home care regime for every client. During the initial client consultation, we discuss what combination of treatments will be the most appropriate for each client taking into account age, Fitzpatrick skin type, the stage and severity of acne and affordability.
